As of July, Food Exchange is beginning deliveries in Vermont. As their website reads, "The Organic Renaissance Food Exchange (ORFoodEx) offers an online food exchange and regional logistics platform with a transparent, open source approach to the aggregation and distribution of food, dry goods, beverages and health & beauty products." They never own the products or charge a margin. Their pricing structure is based on volume, climate needs (eg refrigeration), and travel time.

If successful, FoodEx will help fill a much needed gap in the regional food system - an effective means of moving smaller volumes of product to larger customers. For instance, a small vegetable farm near Middlebury, Vermont may not have the volume to deliver to the Shaw's in Middlebury; however, FoodEx may be able to aggregate enough product from enough small and mid-sized farms to make that delivery worthwhile for Shaw's.
FoodEx offers a compelling new service that may change the ability for local farms to thrive and move their product in an efficient manner, despite having much smaller quantities than typical industrial ag farms.
Sunrise Orchards is excited to have yet another ally in the Northeast regional food system.
